Premium, sum insured and duration
In brief
This page explains four terms that frequently appear in connection with travel medical insurance. It contains no prices and no rating of plans.
Type of sources used
The legal references come from Article 15 of the Visa Code. Product-related figures are to be taken exclusively from the insurer's documents.
The terms in detail
The following terms describe different elements of a contract:
- Premium: the amount the insured person pays for the cover.
- Minimum premium: the lowest amount an insurer charges per contract or period, even if the calculated premium would be lower.
- Sum insured: the maximum amount up to which the insurer pays for insured benefits.
- Duration: the period for which the cover is agreed.
Duration and period of stay
Article 15 of the Visa Code foresees that the cover extends over the entire period of the intended stay or transit.
Whether an agreed duration meets this requirement in a specific application is assessed by the competent mission.
No prices on this page
Premiums can change and depend on the plan, age and period. For this reason no amounts are stated on this page.
Current premium and benefit details can be found in the insurer's documents.
Questions about this page
- Why do you not state premiums here?
- Premiums change. A figure without a same-day check would not be reliable; the insurer's documents are decisive.
- Is a higher sum insured automatically better?
- No such rating is made here. The legal text names a minimum cover; the scope of benefits follows from the insurance terms.
Where to verify this authoritatively
Legal requirements on cover are set out in Article 15 of the Visa Code; premium and benefit details only with the insurer.
